Tach, Temp Gauge, Fuel Gauge, Dash Lights, Clock and Turn Signals Not working
Hey Guys,
I've been troubleshooting some cooling issues with my 91 Civic Si on here. I was driving it to the shop today and as I pulled onto I-95 I heard a click and the tach, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, clock and turn signals all stopped working. The only thing working on the dash is the speedometer/odometer because they are cable driven. When I turned the car off at a gas station and turned the key to the on position, all I got was the battery light. I quickly checked a few fuses and all of them looked good. I am trying to work on one issue at a time and right now the cooling system is a bigger PITA, but obviously I need my temperature gauge to work. Any ideas for where I should start looking?

Fuses.
Dont check 'a few'. Check them all. And by check them, either use a Multimeter, or replace with a new one.

I visually looked at them. They looked ok. The shop has my car now so I'm sure he'll look into it. I'll definitely check them when I get the car back with my multimeter. I checked whichever fuses under the dash corresponded with the instrument lights and turn signals and they looked good. I'll definitely check for continuity when I get the car back.
Ok so I got the car back from the shop today. I checked the number one fuse and it was blown so I replaced and it blew after about five to ten seconds. I'm guessing I should be looking for a short then?
I have had some issues like you but my fuse did not blow my coolant temp melted instead. I would advise you to check that wire and check that sensor first, and that may be your cooling issue too. When that shorted all my cluster went crazy and no lights on like yours.
I will keep that in mind. I know for sure I am still having a head gasket issue causing exhaust to make it into my coolant (warped block or cracked cylinder, I am thinking because I just replaced the head gasket). I am pretty much going to check out all of my options.

UPDATE: So I ran some tests with a multimeter this morning and determined that my wires were okay. What was causing the short was the back up lights wires in the engine bay. When I took the transmission out to replace the clutch a few months ago, the rubber grommets that cover the crimped on male/female connectors came off one of the two wires. That exposed wires was grounding out on the bracket that holds the O2 sensor to the transmission. Lucky fix for me, but a good reminder to make sure I replace things like that in the future.
