Need help! Putting head back on!!
Ok so as I took the head off my car all these little followers I guess (not sure the name) fell out. There the little parts right under the cams on the valves. What is the name of these?? And does anyone know the order to put them back in? They have numbers on them but not sure where to start.
the rocker arms?
if its the rocker arms it really doesnt matter where they go, but I try to keep the rockers that were on the exhaust seperate from the ones on the intakes. when you put it all back together the first thing you should do is a valve adjustment anyways, so its not a big deal.
or did something else fall off?
which head is this?

They better no spin freely ! lol you're fighting compression when you turn them or if the plugs are out, just the weight of the rotating assembly. you have a non VTEC engine right ?
yeah you can search online for a factory service manual. its very handy.
also I hope you only torqued the cam bolts to 7lbs
I had to buy a new torque wrench that read that low because I was scared of over torquing them

anything under 10ftlbs=hand tight at least in my experience. and by hand tight I don't mean pulling hard as **** on the ratchet just a little pull.
Hey guys, so I had to get a new head today (rebuilt), and now tomorrow I am finally going to be putting it on. The only problem is before I started the head removal I didn't set It at top dead center. Now when I put in the cams the gears don't show at tdc. How do I go about fixing this? And what exactly do I need to check about setting everything up right? Thank you
turn them by hand to TDC, put a 14mm over the end of one and turn it same with the other. I trust you undid the tensioner...so just slip the best over and re tighten it. make sure the #1 piston is at TDC should be very easy since the head is off then do as I said with the cams.
Alrighty so I got every thing back together with no big problems. Only little thing was when spinning the cams to set tdc, I heard a snap when doing that. Only happened once and then I stopped. But now the car won't start. It cranks fine and I hear a little bit of popping noise from the engine bay but won't turn over.
confirm the block is at TDC first. the check spark fuel and that everything is hooked up in the right place. As for the snap that would be the valves closing they make a snap/clapping sound.
thank god that's just the valves closing. I though I broke something. And I will check the basics tomorrow. How do I check if the blocks at tdc now? I think it has something to do with timing but can't be sure.
may be hard to see but this is how you can check. OR stick a really long pencil down the #1 sparkplug well and turn the engine by hand till you see it(pencil) go up stay flat for a second or two then start to go down find the balance. I've done it plenty of times as my crank pully no longer has the visible marks.
The pointer isnt very obvious a lot of times. I used a silver sharpie on mine so I could see the damn thing.
Its just a raised ridge on the timing cover that almost looks like some sort of molding line from when they made it.

I hope you weren't turning the cams/gears all the way around with the timing belt off, because if you did you may have damaged the valves in the head by forcing one or more of them into the top of the pistons!
When I was putting my GSR head back on a few weeks ago, I noticed that I was fighting the valve spring tension and had a pretty difficult time getting the cams/gears lined up properly in order to get the timing belt on.

I am trying to find a coolant leak that is somewhere behind the motor. Its not coming out of any of the lines. There is some squishy black box that its coming out of right underneath. Its dripping on to my downpipe but I can not find where its leaking from. Any ideas?? ps. its way under the intake manifold
