Icon2 Can i use a breaker bar instead of a torque wrench for my steering wheel

Just wondering if i can use this with an adapter and 19 mm deep socket or do I need to use a torque wrench, I have a detachable wheel, hub, quick release, and a 19 mm socket even I just need to know if I can use a breaker bar or no.

I have no idea what you are asking, but I hope you realize that using a torque wrench as a breaker bar will mess it up.

Are you removing it or fitting it? there's no reason for using a torque wrench to remove a nut or bolt.

Yes use the breaker bar.

Yup. I've used my torque wrench to break things free. But use the breaker bar for removing. Torque wrench for installing.

DON'T use the torque wrench to remove anything, you will damage it. Ask me how I know. A breaker bar or a even a normal ratchet with a cheater bar will work.

Okay this actually was helpful for real thanks, but to be clear I absolutely need the torque wrench to reinstall the bolt right?

Now I've read on several different forums about the "Cheater bar" and that's when you put the bar over the ratchet right? (if you can please explain more cause I might have to go that route.) But I've tried using my ratchet and to some of course that's not gonna work but I've seen videos of people actually using a ratchet to get it out I guess my man levels aren't up there yet smh

a piece of pipe will work, or even a box wrench (more likely to slip). anything that makes the handle longer will give you more leverage.

A torque wrench was designed to tighten only, period!

If you are breaking bolts loose with it, it's a great way to wreck a tool, which you may have already

Don't read into what I'm about to say too much. But experience will take you a long way. Like the feel of something or another. I'm sure you know what I mean. Being able to tell if this is a job for such and such tool or not.

Anyways, OP, you don't absolutely need a torque wrench for re installation. It's just nice to actually be tightened to spec if you are doing anything series. If you are just doing basic things, I wouldn't worry about it too much. And buy yourself a used torque wrench. I bought mine, goes up to ~300 ft/lbs, for $20. Works great. Never fails. Bought a breaker bar for like $15. And a 6 ft piece of steel out of a dumpster for free.

You do not need to torque the steering wheel nut down.

Christ, glad somebody said it. I've never torqued my steering wheel nut down. Ever. Just use a 1/2 ratchet to remove and install, simple.

Oh, and if you can, avoid using the steering wheel lock to hold the wheel while you break the nut loose. That nut can be stubborn as hell. I've taken a 2x4 and put it from the floor to one of the spokes on the wheel to hold it.

He broke his torque wrench I bet, meaning it no longer is accurate.

Well in my case, the mechanism for forward/reverse popped off in multiple pieces. It was broken. Lesson learned.

Don't use a cheater bar on a ratchet. And yes, don't ask me. It's not always safe. Too many variables to tell.

I just used a ratchet to remove my steering wheel though. It wasn't that tight
