Default Panning/Rolling Shots

I've decided to give this a go, and I liked the results. My first time doing this, but they came out decent.

Panning

Rolling

The panning shots weren't too good, but I really liked the rolling shots. Thoughts?

Anyone? I've seen some pics on here with heavy background blur and insanely sharp focus on the car. Any tips or help on achieving that?

Ah. I've looked that up, but can't really set up a rig. I was hoping a combination of aperture/shutter speed and actual vehicle speed would do, but I guess not :/

to get the kind of blur a rig shot produces you need to use shutter speeds that would be impossible to capture a sharp focus with panning/rolling. The best I have ever done rolling/panning is 1/20th of a second and thats with the 2500 dollar Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II lens.

Practice is key. You can't get a perfect shot every time you turn on the camera. Your lighting conditions, ie the weather, your camera settings, how smooth the road is, how still you can hold the camera, etc are all working for or against you. Just keep shooting and shooting until you achieve the desired results!

Thanks! I know, this was my first time trying rolling shots and results weren't too shabby. I'm gonna try and kick the speed up next time and maybe even do some night shots. It's a bit hard to find two more people and roads without much traffic or cops lol
