my car is suddenly slower and smoke alot when i get passed 5 rpms. sometimes after getting on it, it smokes at idle. but not till after i get on it. where should i start looking? head gasket, rings, valve seals? idk where to start

 

compression test it post the number then go from there. WET & dry test then leakdown

You can rent a compression tester for free or buy one for 20$.

 

yeah just to it yourself. its very simple. there are plenty of threads on here on how to do a compression test and the part in only about $20. a wet compression test will tell you right away if your rings are good or not.

 

Replace rings.

 

make sure to disconnect the distributor when you do the test!

very important step unless you want to fry the coil

 

just buy it from autozone? id rather do it myself than pay someone to do it

 

ya or rent it but it's a VERY handy tool to have imo so just sent 20$. I once had a garage comp/leakdown test a car I had once NOT by choice either ! they charged me 65$ which is nuts never went back there.
