Default A/C Low Performance concern Odyssey 2013 EX-L

Hi there,

I decided to replace my Odyssey 2004 EX with an Odyssey 2013 EX-L this summer. I could not resist the offers plus the $$ I had to invest on the 2004 for maintenance. So far I am happy with 3 exceptions:

1.- MPG- I am getting only 13-14 mpg. Most of my trips are very short in hot, sizzling TX summer. Very similar to 2004 EX or a little lower MPG
2.- Low power during acceleration, sometimes I have to go to L or use D3. 2004 EX was better here.
3.- A/C Performance - This is the big concern/complaint. It seems the A/C it is weaker than the 2004 EX A/C

Below my concern and question to the group:

A/C set to LO, FAN to highest speed for both front and rear A/C and SYNC.

I decided to measure the temp of the air coming our of the vents:

At idle with a 99F temp, the lowest temp of the blowing air coming from the driver/ front passenger vents in the middle is 52F. I have to accelerate to about 1000 - 1500 rpm to get the temp of the blowing air to 44F. If I go back to idle them the blowing air temp goes up to 52F. 52F is not enough to keep the Odyssey cold in the TX summer.

The temp of the blowing air of the A/C vents on the second row came at 54F. It makes no difference if the car is at idle or at 1000-1500 rpm.

A quick reference... I also have an Accord 2009 and the temp of the blowing air at idle with the same setting is 44F.

Is this a normal A/C behavior/performance on the 2013 Odyssey EX-L?

dont test the ac on the highest blower speed...set it to the midde. i just had a customer the other day complain about their 13 odyssey....1 the odyssey had a dark interior and 2 no tint. measure the temp from the front center vents and set the speed no higher then the middle setting. the 13 i tested blew at a very cool 44.7 degrees. i compared that vehicle to a 2014 on the lot and both blew the same temp. started with the inside temp at 127 degrees then after 6 min it dropped to 60 and thats out in the sun at high noon....after 14 more min 20 minutes total it was blowing at 45 ....the lowest was 44.7 and it would fluctuate a few degrees higher when the ac compressor turned off. Hope this helps
