Default '90 D15B1 PCV issues, HALP!

Hey folks, I have a 1990 std hatch with the original 243,000-miles D15, all original. When I bought the car, it was leaking oil really badly, turns out the previous owner destroyed the gasket on the oil filter. Now it doesn't leak a single drop and level has been dead-on since change about 2 weeks ago. BUT!
...
I am smelling oil when the car is hot or has been run for a while, used to show smoke from under the hood when I parked after driving say 50 miles or so, I think it was just oil on the block from the change and previous leak due to negligence. I read that the PCV may be the culprit for the smell. I went to do the "pinch test" on the lines and discovered this mess, and didn't want to clamp down and break it. If anybody could shed some light on this, I would appreciate it. I can't tell if it has been repaired (poorly) or it's damaged itself, or what. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers, folks!

that shouldnt be an issue. there are two hard lines, tied together with a steel band over a cushion. one is the breather from the valve cover to the intake tube, the other, i believe is either an oil line or a coolant line running to the other side of the manifold. the lines are both steel, so what you see is just the strap falling apart

i may be wrong, not an expert, but that is what it looks like to me

My car was suffering from the same oil smell and it was the hose the runs from the PCV to the side of the block by the oil filter. It was cracked in numerous places. I ran to the auto parts store and took the faulty hose with me. They were able to give me one that had a similar bend to it that would allow it not to kink up due to the sharp bend it has to make. If you need a pic I can grab one at lunch.
