what is the mistery about wobbling timing belt

it seems like nobody knows what the problem is with this
theres tons of threads and everyoneis just guessing about the cause.
anyone know 100% what causes off center and wobbling timing belt?
mine was always on the outer edge of the cam gears
but since I did the head work I left the cover off and now can see that it wobbles on the tensioner and water pump
but it stays on the outside edge of crank gear and timing gears.
crank it seems like keeping it from sliding off past the edge.
not sure what the deal is. I did tighten the tensioner correctly both times according to manual.

I'm assuming you out the belt guides on? I believe they do go on a certain direction. There's two of them on pre obd2 engines.
Belts walk around, its just their nature. Nothing to worry about.
Get a vibrant or endyn tensioner if your running a high lift cam (pro1s etc) and worried about it slapping and walking more.

I think I found the problem. my tensioner bearing worn out it has some side to side play in it. well see once I replace it
