Default 86 Wagovan 4x4 5 speed - Engine swap options? Is it worth it?

Like the title say's, I have a 86 4x4 Wagovan 5 speed, it needs some work like brakes, carb cleaned, shocks, exhaust finished but the body/frame/interior are pretty clean, I currently drive it everyday but it needs work asap so I'm up in the air as to get rid of it/junk it or put some money into it and make it a fun car but the question is, is it even worth it? Seems like everyone puts money into 88+'s because of the engine swap options, what's a direct bolt up? (I don't have access to a welder)

This could be a hilarious car if it was quick with the 4x4 ect but will the drive train hold up? I've seen boosted newer Wago's in the 12's but this is older.

I heard any D series will bolt up to the 4x4 tranny? How's the under hood space for a SOHC or DOHC (Yikes) D16z6 or ZC ect?

Basically, I just started a new job and need a reliable car and this one needs work but I'd be willing to buy a work beater and drop money into the Wagovan if it's worth it?

I put it on red pepper racing for sale and got zero replies and that was ANY reasonable offer, probably get $250 if I crush it.

Thanks a bunch!

Nearly 200 views and no responses, I think that answered my questions.

I'm junking it Monday to buy another car so if your interested at all in picking it up, let me know before then, thanks.

Way to give up just because nobody responded to your post. Shows you dont have the heart for a project like that anyways. Check out red pepper racing online, they have all your 3g engine swap answers.

yeah i dont know where you live but that sucks, up in canada you could get $1000 for it in an hour......... Crushing something like that is just sad and wrong , if you have the space, you should really keep it and wait to sell it. At the very least rip out the drivetrain and sell it on ebay...

It's not that I don't have the heart, trust me I'd love to put her away in a garage I'm just stuck between a rock and a hard place, started a new job and don't have much money and just need a reliable vehicle so I can make some money, I figured somebody would pick her up for a few hundred at least to save her, not sure what the salvage yard is going to offer but I guess we'll see.

It will definitely be a sad day, that's for sure.

Do you still have the wagon? PM me with what you are realistically looking to get for it.
