H23A BLue Top Dyno Cam Thread
This thread is created to document the performance of various cams in the H23A Blue Top engine. Please feel free to post stock cam graphs, aftermarket cam graphs, along with comparison graphs between different profiles and degree settings. This thread is intended to be a resource for builders and drivers to aid in the decision making process when choosing which cams to run with their H23A Blue Top. Please be sure to list all of your accompanying modifications.
I will start with mine.
QSD H2B ITR Trans
H23A stock
EuroR intake manifold
Stock Throttle body
Tri-Y header
2.25 inside diameter exhaust
3 inch Blox Velocity stack

QSD H2B ITR Trans
H23A stock
EuroR intake manifold
Stock Throttle body
Logic Tri-Y header
3 Inch Blox Velocity Stack
Supertech valve springs and titanium retainers
AEM True Time cam gears
Skunk2 Pro1 camshafts Intake 1° retarded and exhaust 3° advanced
Ecutout open (also tested shut, this was the best run)
Graph Shows the Skunk2 Pro1 cams losing a substantial amount of mid range horse power and significant torque loss all around. Although they did make better peak WHP the car is generally slower with the Pro1 cams.
BLUE: STOCK CMAS
RED: SKUNK2 PRO1

You will not find too many people with the H23A Vtec motor. It is pretty rare to come across and since it was never sold here in the states not many people know it even exsitis.
Trending Topics
when you read a dynoshit (lol) take care look for the correction factor, none, sae, std etc! (Most common is sae)
if possible at what speed because some people wants to fool us doing ther pass on 3rd gear, generally showing higher numbers!
If its a dynapack graph, if you can see the ratio the tuner used, make sure its the good ratio as it affects numbers! Ex gear x final drive, 1.107x4.4=4,8701 if my memory is good
Its too easy to go on forums and claim numbers with dynograph but ehen it comes to 1/4th mile, some people cant match the hp claimed with their mph/weight

My engine last year
stock block
intake AHRacing
headers PLM RMF style
218whp 180wtq

same engine here, but into my CRV with a no name headers and a shitty intake with the b20 throttle and 2.5" exhaust,
type S cams, untuned on this graph!! that was the tune of the 218whp

comparison

I have done a few of the cookie cutter bolt on builds with the H23AV Blue Top, Euro R mani, 68mm TB, ESP 4-2-1 Header, 3" exhaust, 3" Short Ram Air Intake. 215 hp 174 trq 218 hp 178 trq. DC2, 210 hp 174 trq with PS and PS crank pulley and Type S cams/valve springs/retainers. H23V Turbo Fully Built Motor 9.6-1 compression. 15 psi SC6176e 473 hp 373 trq in a Crx. All are with M2B4 or T2T4 transmissions.
I am an H nut and all I buy these last few years is H23AV BT's dont mess with the JDM H22.
1st Dyno Sheet is My Crx NA H23V BT as described above
2nd Dyno Sheet on Top Right is My Crx H23V Fully Built Turbo'd with a Big Wheel T3/T4 50 trim spooled up quick 411 hp and 341 trq at 15 psi
3rd Dyno Bottom Left My H23V Crx Fully Built Turbo'd with a Fresh Rebuilt Precision SC6176e 473 hp 373 trq at 15 psi swapped out intercooler on this run to Precision 600hp unit. Only 2 different upgrades.
4th Dyno Bottom Right is my DC2 H23V NA same bolt ons as previous cookie cutters I have done. With PS and PS crank pulley. Type S/Euro R Cams and Valve Springs Retainers. 208 hp 174 trq
As you can see on the 1st dyno been a H23V guy since 2008
I had decided to one up the DC2 NA stock block came by swapping out F20B Manual Cams same as Type S/Euro R (Measured) valve springs and retainers. I was in hope for more power even though I had power steering this time around and a PS crank pulley. I got the head for cheap on craigslist complete. However would not recommend spending the money for the upgrade it could probably be used on something more agressive...
DC2 is in mist of getting Fully Built and 6266'd 550 whp is the goal on pump/meth
I was one of the first to put in the H motor in almost stock configuration without making custom bulky side brackets on both sides etc etc. in EF Crx/Civic. This was back in 03 ish... I have had that Red Crx and H22 in it since that long. Till 2007 ish got the H23V Blue Top...

Sure posted in above post.
I like the H23V Blue Tops for the main reason of the 95mm stroke it will make more power then a 90mm H22 crank... The bigger the stroke especially turbo you will see the HP and Torque numbers more closer together.

Wow I stand corrected. Where I live in the states it is super rare to see a H23A blue top. Most local Honda people I talk to dont even know the H23a Vtec even exists. I gues I need to get one and put it in a hatch instead of doing a G23 with K series pistons build. Nice dyno sheets and numbers. The H23a is a beast can we say K killer and V8 killer.

Holy crap... now that is scary and amazing. I'm sure that thing ran well into the 9's

Any luck with aftermarket cams on the H23A?
