Any reccomended NON-straight-through mufflers besides Flowmaster?
Hey all,
So I am scheming to install an aftermarket exhaust on my '06 TSX.
All of the aftermarket catback systems use a straight-through fart can. Most of them, also, are dual exhaust.
I want a single exhaust, 70mm catback system, to complement the 70mm collector on the chosen header, and the selected cat.
However, the car is a TSX. I don't want it to be loud and buzzy. I know that's a relative term, but I'd like to think its possible to design a system that doesn't use a straight through muffler, but still offer the weight savings of a single exhaust, and the increased exhaust flow that would come with a larger diameter pipe.
The exhaust has lost enough energy by the time it gets to the muffler that, given a proper diameter, I would think that the losses from a real muffler would be minimal.
I have heard that a flowmaster muffler sounds like doodoo on a K24, but haven't heard it in person. So I guess my first question, does anyone have experience with a flowmaster on a K24, ideally with a resonator somewhere upstream.
Secondly, is there such thing as a performance muffler more geared for imports, or that has been proven to sound better on an import, that is NOT a straight through muffler? Or should I borrow an OEM one from another other car that has a larger inlet / outlet then the factory TSX mufflers, or should I just get a generic one from an automotive repair shop?
Any input that has tried to make an OEM-ish style exhaust with performance in mind would be appreciated.

I've never heard a Flowmaster on a 4 cyl. engine that sounded good. From Honda's to Toyota's...they all sound like ****. With a good resonator, I'm sure a Magnaflow would sound clean. Vibrant also makes stealthy type mufflers. Have you looked around on Youtube for sound clips?
Have you checked Greddy and Tanabe's websites?

On our TSX we simply used Twin Apex'i World Sport mufflers on the exhaust that was 70mm. Sounds just fine.
This is not mine, but a similar car that has the same setup.

Im really happy with and have had some compliments on my system with a vibrant steel core race cat and a stealth muffler with custom piping. Pretty quiet and deep for a 4cyl, but its on a b16 so it may sound different on a k. A friend put the same stuff on a suby and it sounded good too.
