I'm sorry, I was going to add to my last post but I can't find it. I wanted to give an update and to see if anyone had any other ideas.

-96 Honda accord, 4 cyl, 210k miles

-Car will crank but won't start. If by off chance it starts, it will shut off randomly while driving.

This is everything we have tried and have failed to fix the problem:

1. Main relay -replaced
2. Distributor change-replaced
3. electronic control unit-replaced
4. fuel pressure check-normal
5. spark check-normal

Probable unrelated problem, key can come right out of ignition while engine on. Unusual strong gas smell in car cabin while filling up.

Mechanic doesn't think it's the ignition switch because the symptoms (click) of a ignition switch problem didn't appear.

Is there anything left to check? Any ideas?

 

sounds like ignition lock cylinder and/or ignition switch issues

try to wiggle the key or the ignition lock cylinder a bit. if the car shuts off or starts then there is your problem. I doubt its that though. have you checked your air filter iac valve fitv? any codes?
