Default b18a with pr3 pistons?

So would this set up even be plausible without a vtec head? I just got a b18a long block for $60 it's fully disassembled so I was going to buy a rebuild kit with the pr3 pistons. Would I have clearance issues, and would this still bump up the cr?

Nobody can tell you if you will have clearance issues without telling us what cams you will be using. I would suggest reading some ls/vtec threads and apply that info to your build. All your questions will be answered there.

I would also suggest you take the block and crank to your local machine shop and have them measure everything to make sure it's even worth rebuilding.

^^^ Yep agreed. But you should not have any isssues, the PR3 pistons will have larger valve reliefs in them because they are for a Vtec motor and will increase your compression. Be sure to get a set of cams to use that extra compression and have the motor built and all clearances checked.

definitely need a larger cam if you go that high of compression. otherwise the cyl pressure will be very high and im sure you will have to pull lots of ignition timing

Yeah your compression will be around 11:1 depending on the bore and milling of the head. Larger cams will be very helpful.

Any recommendation on a set of cams to use? Kind of new to this whole Honda thing here. Also thinking about using itb's. and yes non-vtec build.

i dont think you need itb's. a good intake manifold will do.

people have good results with crower 403/404. rocket has some regrinds that do very well.

check this thread and get in touch with these guys they will get you on the right track.

Your clearances should be fine unless you really screw things up. Even with stock pistons, crazy milled head, and bigger cams in the engine in the thread that blackeg linked, there were still tons of clearance.
