B&M Short Shifter Rattle
Just wondering how bad your B&M rattles because mine rattles in every gear except neutral. The only time it doesn't rattle is when I'm stepping on the gas. Once I release the gas it rattles again. I've been driving with it for the last month and it's really getting on my nerves. I had the shop check the install and they said it's fine. I suggested that maybe the heat shield is touching it and they said it's not even close to touching it.. Is there something I missed? I also have the ES bushings. I decided on the B&M because everyone here seems to agree that it's a great SS and the only drawback is the rattling. So I thought, it's only a little rattling.. but what's your definition of little rattling? Even with the radio semi cranked I can hear the shifter
It is the O-Rings that is on the actual shifter bolt that makes the rattle. Well just the metal to metal contact. I used the 2 plastic rings from the stock shifter with the Silicone ones that B&M supplied in the box. I have no rattle anymore.
It did rattle like a bitch before with their supplied rings only.

I put the 2 black plastic parts that were on the OEM bolt and stuff it in first on either side, I then put the 5 Silocone Orange Bushings that B&M supplied. I noticed a dramatic loss of rattle.
Its all about those stupid 0-rings that B&M supplies. They aren't good and there lots of metal to metal contact.

So you have 4 rings on the shifter bolt?

I went to the shop today and they replaced the rings that B&M supplied with thicker rings.. and problem solved. No more rattling! now I'm happy with the shifter!
thanks for your help..

yea.. there's 2 rings on each side right.. well they took the two rings off each side and replaced it with rubber rings that are twice as thick.. I didn't think it was going to work.. but it did. Shifts the same still.. just no rattling. I looked for the original plastic rings like understeer sugested.. but couldn't find them.. so the guys at the shop improvised.

Like I said above, the big O-Rings supplied (5 of them) are not beefy enough, thus there a lot of metal to metal contact which makes the rattling sound.
Go to Home Depot and find some hard rubber pieces that will fit on either side of the bolt(the one that goes inside the shifter linkage)
Those rubber rings or whatever you put there is just to mearly stop play and keep it settled in there.
im guessing you put in #4's
