My reverse lights come on when I'm switching into reverse but when I'm in reverse they turn off. It's like I need to keep it just almost out of gear when backing up for the lights to stay on. It isn't a huge problem but I find its a safety issue when backing out of parking spots or into on coming traffic.

UPDATE: it's an AT. It's not the bulbs, fuses or switch because the reverse indicator and reverse lights do come on when I hold the shifter just above the "R" position. Seems like it needs an adjustment somewhere.

Anyone found a solution for this or have any ideas how to fix this?

 

You could try and adjust the shift cable a bit or the transmission range switch could be bad.

 

I can't believe the trans switch is bad because its working but just not in the right position. Seems more like the shifter cable or something needs tightening or adjusting. I asked the previous owner and they've had the issue all along, someone else must of had this problem. After searching all over I can only find ppl that needed to replace bulbs, switch or fuse that I know are ok on my vehicle
