Default Intake Setups Looks vs. Costs vs. Gains

Im currently running a factory airbox with the resonator removed. Theres a pipe running from the bottom of the airbox to the front bumper duct. Just wondering what people were running and which setups function better and what not! Images would be great to look at. Just maybe thinking about adding some bling to the bay! Thanks

Mugen w/Samco Intake arm worked great. Pretty much only setup I would go with

Thanks for the pic, looks good! With the Samco intake hose does it have a mounting bracket to keep it from flopping around and running the bay or does the mugen filter have one? Also, can you clean the mugen filer, and does it sounds and perform better than stock?

The Mugen intake bolts to the car so it does not flop around. You can take the filter out and clean it. The Mugen is arguably the best performing intake for our cars and the sounds is amazing. You can take the filter out and use some filter charging clean kit.

Any dyno plots, stock vs. Mugen?

Ditto

very $$$ compared to other options and a little bit of a hassle to install compared to others but still relatively easy for anyone and there are some nice write-ups on the subjects...

Very high quality piece in every aspect, paid about 900 from King some years ago...worth every penny IMO.

I remember seing some graphs a long time ago,IIRC depending on mods it gives somewhere around 8-11 peak whp.

Take it for what it's worth but I remember shaving 2-3 tenths repeatedly on my 1/4 mile time after installing this and a catback only, from 14.5XX-14.6XX to 14.2XX-14.3XX steady and gaining approx 3mph trap speed.

nice what cat back did you install. I just don't want to have a loud drone with my R. Currently a fully stock exhaust minus polishing the muffler to make it look better!

Current image of my Bay

You can see the filer im running on the lower picture! CHIVE ON!!!

Spoon N1, very nice sound but loud from idle to louder the more you go
You can still listen to the radio if you want to or talk with the person beside you no problem but it takes a lil' bit of getting used to at first because you can really hear it well all the time. Honestly, I barely listen to radio anymore, I like better the sound of my car talkin' to me!

I first installed the catback and it was loud as sh... (and high pitched)compared to stock but for some reason the Mugen Airbox, even if loud by itself too, kind of balanced things out with it's low pitch and the end result kind of gives the impression of being less noisy.

Clean engine bay BTW!

I'm a big fan of the ITR elbow + CT engineering Ice box & Drop in Filter.

And come comparison and explanation for ya.

That video is very convincing! My setup is basically the same, but my lower pipe isn't fully sealed and a flex/stretch pipe. Not completely smooth on the lower portion. Great gains on the CT ICEBOX and tune though!

For the price, I still like the AEM CAI.

Derrick, Mugen as previously stated or the CT Eng/Comptech Icebox if I were you. Both very clean and effective. Just depends on what you're looking to spend. You can also do the CT Eng box w/ a "stock" K&N filter and oem intake arm.

Icebox Link

Icebox filter for use with OEM arm

K&N makes that filter but you would have to search for the part #. I forget it off top.

Edit: Found it for you K&N E-2427

I have a Tegiwa mugen copy on my dc2. It's quite a nice bit of kit. No dyno information but it sounds great.

I was a big fan of the Mugen. Even on the OEM arm. Changed it from an AEM CAI (which had great top end, but horrid throttle response and heat soak). Mugen stays consistent, and there is a very usable mid range bump in power. Looks tidy in the bay as well.
