Default My 97 cx build thread

hey guys i recently picked up a 1997 cx hatch..im in Wisconsin and it took me an 1 and half to go pick it up.. the car is originally from Missouri, it is rust free, previous owner put a 2000 front end on the car
it came d16y8 swaped with a z6 head
car was painted less then a year ago so the paint is amazing !
The bay is tucked and painted so saves me a lot of work and $$$
the owner sold me the car for only a $1,000 due to some issues it had..
The car was backfiring and had a sligh missfire and loss of power along with a check engine light..
I drove the car home pinned the check engine and its only an o2
i checked the spark plug wires and the firing order was backwards lol
i start up the car and it runs like a champ ! even has a new clutch and headgasket

the next day i got an oem si lip for the car, threw it on spring so it looks good while it sits in the garage because the car was higher then stock for some reason hah.. i gutted the interior more since itll be my track car. im still unsure 100% if ill just turbo this motor or do the K swap

how the hatch sits as of now after the springs and a well needed clean up....ps subscribe to my channel if you like the videos

Hah nice story.

As for turboing the SOHC vs the K-swap, I would go for the K-swap if you have the money and are up for the challenge of the swap.

Would cost a lot more for the K, but I believe the resell value and ease of selling would be higher. (They better!) Should get more compliments and props for the K.
Not I am not knowledgeable on this, but I believe the K is more durable so it could handle additional power just fine, and I think the stock K might still be faster than the boosted SOHC?? and it would still have that room to improve and has a higher top out in performance.

But if that is too costly, and too much work, then the SOHC boosted is fine, but you would need to upgrade more than just adding the turbo for the engine to handle the increases and stay alive for long.

Maybe go between the two and do a B series swap (I know, everyone has em'). But I believe the B is much cheaper than the K and you could boost it and I think boosting a B DOHC gives a much better improvement over boosting a SOHC, even if mildly built. Do more searching on what kind of track number people are pulling with their set up's so you can better decide.

On the performance recommendations take what I say lightly, lol, I am probably incorrect, so do more searching. Haha.

Anyways, very nice deal you got there. And the drop, lip and car wash really improved the look. It did look rather high haha

A k20 EK is fun as hell especially if you go all motor K even a K24 is fun and a bit cheaper then an k20a2. I'd run that sohc till the end or till you have the 5-6K for the k swap or you could boost a b18c1 lots of options out there.

hahahaha "all I see is dollar signs" playing in the background is funny since you are about to sink some money.

Why are you cutting beams out of the door?

nice. glad to see you are doing the K-swap!!! i'm putting a K together myself. $350 is a DEAL. keep track of your expenses during the swap. it adds up quick. as for mounts i would also go with the hasport EKK2 kit. its worth changing the subframe and steering rack to a DC/EG one.

*that manifold needs to be changed. thats not the stock manifold. look for an RBC or at least the stock k20a one.

Thanks for all the posetive replies everyone...
I tried putting a k20a mani on it but the coolent holes didnt line up but i might as well get a good power adder one, ill get a nice top end header and hopefully have it tuned on kpro with e85, i seen chris miller pull up to 250whp from a stock K on e85

And j-rad what is the cause of the subframe change

Horribly unsafe, the K20 is cool but stop hacking the car.

You'll see when you start researching the k-swap. The dc/eg subframe is used with hasports and other companies motor mounts to give the motor better positioning, weight distribution, axle angle, and oil pan clearance. Trust me. You will read up on the benefits of the EKK2 mounts. Good luck with the swap.

So...that motor spun the bearings, and they didn't take the crank, journal surfaces, or rods with them? Start counting your lucky stars now - either you don't know what to look for, or you just used up the last bit of luck any average person would have.

Nobody is pulling 250whp out of a stock k. It doesn't make that at the crank let alone the wheels
