Default need help on what engine

I've been wanting to swap away my d16y5 with the infamous cvt trans since I bought the car
I originally wanted to go b16a but changed my mind to a b18b1 and doing research I've got my mind all mixed up

my vision is an all motor set up
with around 180 to 200 whp I almost had my heart set on the b18b1 but I can across a thread saying stuff about the bottom end not being balanced and then some more about how non vtec have disadvantages

so im trying to get advice on what really would be a good swap for my criteria
and yes I do plan on building the top and bottom end

Go with a Ls Vtec setup. What you have heard about the B18B not being balanced is total BS, they are balanced very well from Honda not as much as a Vtec motor yes but still very well balanced. ARP rod bolts are a very good idea to help hold the rods together under higher rmps. Getting to 180-200whp on a non Vtec motor is do able but is harder to get there. It is very easy to do with a Vtec head and good cams.

I was going to post almost the exact same thing as this, but he beat me to it.

I would also vote H2B unless you like your car dumped, then I would do a ls/vtec. Do some ARP rod bolts like mentioned above, get some PR3 pistons, Pro1 cams/Pro VT, maybe a valve job, S2 Alpha header and tune!

Running something similar and made 231whp on e85... Blox C's instead of S2

yes, or a b18c head, which will flow a bit better than the b16 head

I support all prior comments. obtaining 200whp out of an ls isn't impossible, but it will be hardly able to dd. Honda has provided us a great technology called vtec, so take advantage of it.

If its a street driven car, then who cares about HP #'s , Id be looking for the torque curve!
200WHP is doable, but you better have deep pockets. Id look to a B20 before a B18 as theres no replacement for displacement.
