Default When a bad rod bearing = a good deal!

Found a D16Y8 on Orlando CL with a spun rod bearing and a 5spd trans / DC 4-1 header for $250. While in Phoenix on business I found a D16Z6 with a blown head gasket for $50, with a good crank/rods. Stuffed my suitcase w Z6 parts and flew home.
Pulled the bottom end of the Y8 apart, and #2 rod bearing was spun, #1 was broken. The cylinder bores all looked good, and engine had good compresstion turning it by the crank dampner bolt.
Had my son clean up the Z6 crank, measured it and it was in good shape on all throws and main journals. Inside micrometers used on rods / new bearings, things looked good. Dropped the Z6 crank in with new berings / seals and torqued it all up to spec.

We are going to drop it in the 93 Hatch shell we picked up for $1K, should be a good, low buck learning / tuning car for the boy, and it looks harmless to his mom So far have about $1500 into it, 2k or so when done- not a bad price for his admission into SOHC VTEC Finland.

Now I need to part out the Del Sol after we get everything we need to get the Hatch going, build a 2nd sohc motor / trans from spare parts to sell, and strt looking for a B18 swap to build for it.

Funny thing is both were boosted engines with turbos before they took a dump. The Y8 guy had the sense to put in ARP stud kit and good gasket, the Z6 didn't and blew the head gasket - saving the bottom end.

Now the Y8 has best of both, good Z6 crank with twin oil galleries for the rod journals, and the ARP studs etc for the topend. The Y8 also had big turbo oil feed and return lines, might have stolen too much oil from the front end of the crank.
