Default GSR crank in my B18a1 Help..

Putting a gsr crank in my b18a1. Im also doing eagle rods and 9:1 wiseco pistons. As far as i know im able to drop the crank in no problem, and shouldnt have any Interference with the piston and rod set-up. I heard that the b18a1 is a destroked block. Does anybody know if i would have any problems running this set up???

Crank should drop right in and as long as you bought GSR rods you'll be fine. Block has nothing to do with being "destroked" Your actually destroking it by putting the 87mm stroke GSR crank in where the B18 LS crank was 89mm.

Aren't gsr rods longer though? Dont they makeup for the cranks shorter stroke?? (< not 100 on this.) Im preping the block for boost. You think with that compression and stock LS head i can run n/a with i/h/e and a chipped P28 for a bit??

So that the crank can allow the piston to stay at a reasonable compression. You match the crank with the rods. GS-R Crank = GS-R Rods. Don't overthink.

Gsr rods are 87mm and ls rods are 89mm. The gsr pistons has a higher dome giving it a higher cp. and ls pistons dome is smaller. Ur actually lowering the cp cause u using gsr rods with 9.1cp pistons. U should stick with the 89mm rods.

Also what shodan said match the crank with rods.

Ummm No... GSR rods = 137.9mm and LS rods = 137.0mm

Crank stroke is 87 and 89mm respectively. Google is your friend bud, use it!

yes, gsr rods are 0.9mm longer, which makes up for the 2mm shorter stroke. 2mm shorter stroke = 1mm lower piston height if equal length rods are used. gsr rods on gsr crank will put the piston height 0.1mm (which is damn near zero) lower than ls rods on an lsd crank. so piston height would be about identical if you match rods with crank.

but as said above, gsr crank is 2mm shorter stroke, so you are actually DEstroking the motor by using a gsr crank. which means the setup will be a hair more efficient at higher rpm, but you are effectively reducing the displacement by reducing the stroke. which typically reduces power output. unless you go with larger bore to make up for the lack of stroke.

displacement = area of bore x stroke

if you want higher displacement, use ls crank and ls rods in a gsr block.

if you heard this, whoever told this to you may have been referencing the comparison to the b20a5 prelude engine. they are very very similar, though mostly not interchangeable. but the LS is basically a destroked b20a5.

Using a LS Crank and rods in a GSR block is the same as using them in a Ls block only difference is the GSR crank griddle and oil squirters.

Yes u r right about the block. I have a ls crank ls rods with type r pistons in a gsr motor and the Ls internals with high cp pistons is better than the ls block for reliability IF YOU DONT CUT CoRnErs!!!! the girdle will help stabilize the crank during high rpm. Yes u are right the gsr has the added girdle and oil squirter...

OP if u want power do the lsvtec swapped in the gsr. the gsr head has smaller combustion chambers, smaller than the ls head cylinder therefore the gsr raise more compression compared to the ls. The gsr also has dual valve springs on the intake side and single valve spring on the exhaust side ( if I remember correctly ) and the ls head has all single spring on both exhaust and intake side. Oh amd not to forget the gsr ALSO has vtec.
