Default cracked transmission housing

I am trying to find repair info for a friend of mine. The specs are a 2001 Honda Accord sedan with auto tranny. According to my friend, there is a crack on the housing. It looks like the previous owner tried to make a repair and it has since been leaking. Not sure where or how large the crack is. My question is if anyone is aware of the housing being able to be welded as a repair or does the tranny need to be junked. Thanks.

Depends on where, and how much damage there is. If it is a small hole/crack from road debris JB weld may be used to cover the hole. But if it is a large crack in the main body it may just be best to replace the housing with a junkyard housing. If the TC housing is cracked then it probably would be best to replace the transmission.

I have seen a photo of the damage in question. Still unsure of the diameter, but looks like the size of a half dollar coin. The bead of weld (could be jb weld) has some cracking between the 1 and 2 o'clock positions. I will upload a photo later on to give you a better idea.

looks to be the outer housing of the transmission. Guess someone decided to dump the problem on some unsuspecting owners. Hate it when people do that.
