Hey guys,

I'm wanting to get a spare master key made. I'm wondering if anyone has bought a key from ebay and took it to a dealer to get it cut and programmed.

Cheapest I've found is this $16 one...

If so how was the quality? Should I just bite the bullet and get a genuine key from Honda?

If I'm not mistaken the cutting and programming is the majority of the cost. Aren't they laser cut?

I've used ebay keys before but I'm way pre transponder chip.

As for that key, I do not think I would trust it since its got the factory "H" blurred out in the pictures. Makes it seem a bit shady to me.

 

First off what year civic and second do u still have a key?

 

I lurk here every blue moon! Still driving the same old whip. Only mods are more miles and battlescars from moving to LA... high curbs and terrible parkers... Oh, and weight from all the crap I keep in the car because I don't have a garage anymore :/

its a 03 and i have a single master key.

Lost it the other day and was basically screwed/late for work. Luckily my neighbor found it and posted a note on the apartment building's front door which my apt manager directed me to when I finally gave up retracing my steps and knocked on his door.

 

I purchased a key from ebay, cost me $12, just make sure you get the correct one, mine has the letter F stamped on it, cutting the key was free for me since I know the guys at honda but Im not sure how much it costs to program it. they are not laser cut for Civic 2001-2005 but it is a special cutting machine

Most dealers charge 1 hour labor to program the key....that said, we will not program an "outside" key, just a policy here. Try a local locksmith that can program keys, might be a better solution.
