90 crx si extremly loose shifter
hello everyone new to Honda been dsm for yrs still have my talon but i am jump on honda as a autocross amazing dd. I have a 1990 honda crx si and well my biggest problem is my shifter is so loose its crazy. I mean i can move it up and down a good few inchs side to side all around. I can see my whole linkage moving upon further looking into it i noticed it has no bracket in the diagram. I found it seems to be number 18 the plate. That holds it in place is like not there . My question is how do i go about fixing this and or where to buy it from as i said i am a dsmer so new to honda . Rite now its rigged up with shoe string and or clothes wire any input would be great thanks guys . P.S sorry if my grammar is bad
If you look under your car at the shifter you will see there are two components to the linkage. Check and make sure the stabilizer is properly mounted and the bushing are not wore out. Be sure to look at where the shifter sits in the linkage (the ball), check that to make sure it is not wore out. Also make sure you have the bolts holding the stabilizer in. You are dealing with a old car, these things are going to happen from time to time.
the ball in the shifter seems loose as well when i have my shifte tight being rigged it still have play up and down in the shifter its self . But as to everything else i have found what it is the shifter plate that holds my linkeage up is well ..gone as in not there any input as to were i can purchase one of these or fab up my own i am missing the plate that bolts into those two hole right behind my shifter its driving me nuts lol i hate the play the sloopy feel it has
There are a few things that will make it sloppy. The pivot joint at the front and the shifter at the back. I believe you can still get the bushing for the shifter ball from honda, I like oemacuraparts.com as they can get both honda and acura (helpful for swaps). If you need discontinued parts, the junkyard or WTB classifieds are your best bet. I might have a couple pieces, including the plate you are talking about. Pm me.
Check out this link, it has all the components, so you can see which ones you need.
