I have been searching everyhwere for information on this, I'm about to purchase a 1998 Honda Civic LX with a d16y7 motor, and the cap and rotor is bad, but I don't know what ignition system I have, how can I go about finding this information out?

 

USDM is generally TEC.

 

I have a 1998 Honda Civix DX 5 speed. How do I tell which coil is in it?

 

If you want to know for sure pull the cap off, TEC coils say TEC right on the top if it's an OEM coil. That said it should be TEC, the only USDM civics to come with a Hitachi distributor were the HXs.

 

Mine says TEC right on the outside of the cap. Mind you it's a B20 from a '98 CR-V though. It says it right on the top of the cap though where the four posts are.

Curious if there is functionally or practically any difference?

 

The wire colors, and where the wires screw into the igniter, are different between the two.
