Default how to check PCV is working

I was wondering if there is a way to check the PCV is functioning correctly while it is installed? the service manual says to pinch the hose that goes from the PCV to the intake manifold and hear for a click, but with the engine running its hard to hear with all the noise.

Searching is always recommended because:
1) You find your answer quicker
2) Less space on the forum
3) Sometimes, find more info from previous threads .

I always thought that was kinda ghetto. If you wanna take the PCV valve out, you should hear it rattle when you shake it. There's a little ball on a spring inside the valve.

Clean it if it's full of oil. Blow through it very gently, it should flow pretty easy. Blow through it harder (from the engine towards the manifold) and it should close up so only a little air flows. It shouldn't close completely. Blow the other direction (towards the engine) and it should close completely.

Then after you've done all that, ask yourself if it's worth $8 to just get a new one anyway.

ps...
I just noticed you're from Moscow - welcome. Maybe those parts are harder to find over there... So maybe it's worth it to clean & re-use it.

If you hear nothing, then soak the PCV in some gas or other cleaner to dissolve the oil in it.

You are supposed to replace it often, but simply keeping it clean is fine.

remove the PCV from the engine.
shake it to see if you can here the internal part move.
IF NOT, replace it.

why does H-t always assume posters have not searched?? I asked for a method to check PCV working WHILE installed on the car, and does not involve pinching the hose to hear for click since it is hard to hear for it with the engine running!!!!!

reason I want to check if PCV is working while installed is, incase there is a block somewhere along the system, rattling the PCV while it is off the car would not help!!

This thread inspired me to put a PCV in my car to try and fix idle problems. I couldn't really hear the rattle on the OEM PCV Valve (it was VERY quiet), so I put an aftermarket one in there. Kind of a pain, but I pulled it off without pulling the oil filter. Didn't help my idle problems.

Regardless, apparently the Honda OEM PCVs rarely go bad and they tend to work better than aftermarket ones, I might have to pay the $30 I was quoted from Honda.
