1998 Honda Accord V6 AT Removal/Rebuild
First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has contributed to this site. You have been an incredible help as I navigate getting this accord up and going. I received this Honda as partial payment to a gambling debt and the trans would not go into any gear. I decided to pull and rebuild the trans myself. I have the rebuild kit with new clutch plates and steels. I also got the helms manual. I have disconnected the everything in order according to the Helms manual but the trans is still tight against the motor.
Has anyone ever taking this apart before? I have removed 6, 17mm bolts bolts but the Helms manual call for 7. I have already found one mistake in the manual so far, so I am unsure if it applies for the bolt.
Helms is telling me that there are two bolts behind the motor by the firewall, above the torque convertor shroud. I took one of the bolts out but I cannot find another one that clamps the trans bell housing to the motor. the only other bolt in that area looks like it is some type of windage tray bolt for the oil pan.
I am really hesitant to pry too hard to get off, incase there is a bolt that I am missing. However, there hasn't been any separation between the trans and the motor so I am worried that I am missing a bolt. Please share you experience and advice. Thank you again to all of those that have been active in the community.

I am personally no help to your cause, I honestly just want to say good luck. Auto transmissions (specifically the 4spd failmatics that are equipped in this year/model/motor) are definitely of intense complexity and are very difficult and time consuming to rebuild for the novice. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in with some more information. Curious to see how it goes.
Thank you NZX. I figure I am either I am naive or cocky. I am a former automotive machinist/engine builder so I have a lot of experience with high precision machine assemblies. I am not intimidated to much by the rebuild I just need to get the damn thing out so I can get into it. Hopefully, if all goes well I may have a side business doing a few of them a year.
I have read in other posts for other makes and models that there are 4 bolts on top and 4 bolts on the bottom. Does anyone know for sure?

But you stated V6.

Looks like 6 bolts on the main bell to engine, and two more underneath which thread through the oil pan. Bolts are labeled to be found on page 'E-6-1'. But I have no idea where that page may be.
You will have to remove the eight bolts that attach the torque converter to the drive/flexplate before removing the trans.
Mad Mike,
I got the 8 bolts on the the the torque converter/flex plate. The two bolts through the oil pan. One more underneath on the backside by the firewall next too the O2 connector bracket. I also got three from up top. So if my math is correct that is only six and I am missing 2 bolts. Thank you very much for the detailed post. I am away on business and I won't be able to get underneath the car until Saturday. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you again.

I have beefed up and blueprinted a Ford AOD transmission for the 5.0 liter V-8 Mustang, but not without the excellent video from Technicalvideo.com. Plus you need special tools such as clutch spring compressors and seal installers, besides the usual feeler gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators. I must have spent $250 just on AOD-specific tools. There are pitfalls and tricks to the installation, which their videos cover, as well as mods to the oiling system.
I asked Technical Videos if they could make a video for the Honda Accord, but they only do American V-8 transmissions.
