Last night it rained, and when I came home I saw this:

So after fishing a dixie cup's worth of water out over and over and over and over again, I got it down to this:

The trunk's been having a problem with leaks for awhile since it's been in the same spot while I wait for some parts to come in. I think it's this gap, and not the sealing around it
Driver's side gap:

The passenger's side should be smaller, and I did notice more water on one side than the other. So I think the trunk isn't aligned right.

Now what I'm wondering is how I can close that gap. That's what I reeeally want to do before the seal to see if it fixes this because it would also just make the trunk look better. I can't find a way to besides taking it off and bending the pieces so they close more. Does anyone know how to?

I was also wondering if anyone's made a drain before. You just need to drill a hold in the trunk, right?

 

You can make the drain anywhere, make it at the deep end of the trunk closer to the end so it all drains like a water fall

Edit: Also, you guys probably noticed the chipping paint. Well apparently the rear bumper is silver, then the doors and hood are black. So it's a bit of a frankenstein car. I can take up how to get that white paint off in the painting section, right?

 

i highly doubt it the gap, those civic trunk has a groove in it that run around it and if water was to drip in, it would of drip in those groove i have the same ej but my trunk isn't off like your it perfectly flat as it just came from the dealer and if i drive it or leave it out in the rain i would have the same result as you, i have try to resolve it but i haven't found where it leaking from, my next plan is to either leave it out and the rain or have someone hose the trunk area (holding the hose up and let it come down acting as rain) while I'm in the car fold the rear seat and observe but sadly my car isn't running right now and are not on 4 wheel so i can't pull it out of the garage to try it.

Under both tail lights there is a plastic plug. One of mine was missing and water leaked in.

Its under the bumper cover, closer to the middle of trunk area. I replaced the plastic plug and fixed my leak.
The holes are about the size of a nickle. You can see them from inside the trunk, but dont push on it or it will pop out. The install from outside > inside.
