2001 Honda CR-V Transmission - Auto
I was taking a drive out in the country yesterday and the rpms started revving up when I hit the gas (in drive). I couldn't get much power out of the car. It steadily got worse and until it got to where I couldn't get anything when hitting the gas. Intermiitently, I can hit the gas and could get a little power in resverse, only for short time. Nothing in 1,2 or D. Ideas?
Automatic. 2001 Honda CRV. 82k miles
Check engine light also came on (haven't ran codes). Could it be a solenoid problem?

Kinda hard to tell without sensor readouts or at least codes. I'm not fimiliar with the newer trannies but the OD light used to blink if it was a tranny code, but that's also when there was a seperate TCM under the floorboard.
Does it get worse with heat? I've had cars drive fine until the temp got around 150 then it sliped to a stop. If you can get a scanner, my 01 doesn't show a output sensor but that's not to say there isn't one, it does show the vechicle speed sensor, if the difference between these two are significant OR you accel in gear and the VSS shows speed but your not moving theres issues with the clutches, but then your getting into the whole valve body and if the packs are getting enough fluid to engage. The solenoids can simply be cleaned by cycling them and there o so easy to remove but there more of a 1-2 3-4 4-CC element. Have you tried toggling the OD switch? That will lock out fourth and the torque converter.
Wish I could be more help, worked on many of transmissions but being a sealed system all we really did was pull the solenoids and clean them in a machine that cycled fluid back and forth for about an hour, didn't see many come in though and being under 100k somethings definity not right - even the TPS sensor on the trottle body can cause shifting/slipping problems if its reporting incorrect voltages - I've had people come in thinking they need a new tranny, cleaned the dead spot on the TPS and sent them on there way.
Figure those codes out, I got someone I can ask out of town if you post them that can shed some light on this.
Make sure theres no leaks, anywhere, coolant lines, fittings, radiator, gaskets - I've even seen inproperly seated dip sticks loose and fluid splashes out
