I guess punctuation is a lost art. Have you checked the fluid level?

Turn the engine on and place it in every gear for 10seconds to charge each circuit. Place back in park, pull AT dipstick, wipe off, reinsert, pull dipstick and note where the level is. To work properly the trans needs to be within the hash mark.
What color is the fluid?
Does it smell burnt?

Turn the car off, turn the car to ON(not start) when all the lights come on momentarily does the CEL, D4, and ABS also light up for a moment and then go off? If not you will need to replace the bulbs to be able to verify if there are any codes.
If not you will need to replace the bulbs to be able to read the codes, if any, are stored.

If the fluid has never been changed, and the car will momentarily work but then stop working, most likely the sump is clogged with crud. You can try draining the fluid, and refilling to see if that removes some sludge from the pickup. If the trans has 250Kmiles, hell I would even throw a bottle of SeaFoam Trans-Tune into it to help with any build up.

This is the ONLY additive I would add to a H4A, or any other transmission for that matter.
