Default Accords 94-95 Gauge Cluster Tech

People following my build thread probably noticed I just picked up a new tac to replace my faulty one in my 94 EX. Pulled apart my dash and cluster tonight and noticed the circuit board on my current tac has a larger and wider circuit board then the tac I pulled from a 94 EX Wagon (automatic as is my cluster). Was there two different gauge clusters in the 94-95 Accords? I will regardless be pulling the entire cluster out of the Accord Wagon at the junkyard tomorrow, that being if it has the standard three plug I/O interface as mine. Serial numbers on the two gauges read 186 HR-186 and HR-187 indicating some difference, along with my cluster reading #2 on the identification sticker HR-186 being the dominant numbers throughout my cluster. Perhaps the Wagon cluster was different in some way? The junkyard Wagon year, trim, transmission (original auto tranny as per mine is a conversion/unrelated), etc. is identical to the Accord that I own. Although I found it interesting that both tac's had the same three pin/screw interface. Ground, Ignition, signal, just in a different layout.

Left is the one from the Wagon HR-186 and right is from my CD7 HR-187.

The stamped HR-187 on the back panel of the cluster, also with speedometer, temp, fuel, etc. all with the matching HR-187.

Manufactured in 1994 as is my HR-186 tachometer from the Wagon. Pay attention to the number two, perhaps they made two different gauge clusters? Hopefully the entire Wagon HR-186 cluster plug interface matches my current one. Then I'll just yank the entire thing.

Your original Tach looks like my '95s Tach circuit board, Wagon may be an earlier build with 1st year bastard bits that your '94 may have been a later model with mid year updates.

The only other difference that the wagon cluster/board will have over the coupe is warning lights. Wagon/Sedan have four doors with the additional two rear door warning lights. Coupes do not have this. I do not know if the Wagon may also have some rear wiper signal or rear fluid reservoir low fluid check, if that is even applicable.

Remember on reassembly do not over-tighten the fuel gauge screws, hell just use your pinky to put the screws back on... damn Honda

I hate to hear that. I just assumed all 94 gauge clusters were the same and bought a JDM one from Japan or Hong Kong, don't remember which. It's a nice cluster, reads in km and all, but now I wonder if it will even fit. I guess the only way is to pull mine and see.

Even the gauge faces don't seem to have the same mounting screw locations. At least that's a sure fire way to determine clusters without yanking it I guess!

Just to clarify~

My CD7 cluster. HR-187

Wagon cluster. HR-186

Turns out myself working on my distributor and my tachometer going out the same night was just a really horrible confidence! She finally works! I also was able to verify my tune with VTEC at 4k, 2step at 4k and 6k. Rad!

Made a sweet fridge magnet out of the old one too. lol
