Default Axles.. (Grrr..)

Hey all, Frank 'n Car strikes again!

Went to Oil Can Henry's for regular service, and during their check they said that my drive axles are going out....

1. Do they cost alot? (Is it the 'CV Driveshaft' that they are talking about?)

2. Are they hard to put in/How long does it take?

Thanks!

ok, so maybe it's not the axles... I never hear clicking, and it doesn't vibrate when I accelerate... The guy at Oil Can Henry's was grabbing onto something down there and when he pulled on it there didn't seem to be much holding whatever he was grabbing from making alot of noise like metal banging on metal...

Also, occasionally on takeoff from a stop light or stop sign, and when I make a sharp turn it'll lag a little bit, and some of the times it acts like its trying to stall itself out, and other times it lags for a second then the engine revs high for a second and then it takes off...

Does that sound like the axles? or is it something else in the drive train? I thought the lag thing was the distributor, but changing that out hasn't fixed the issue (but it did need a new cap..)

Check TPS, it might be out of calibration.

the axles are probably worn they just want more money. but it might be the tps you gotta check the electrical connections to see what volts you're getting

TPS? Throttle Position Sensor? and you're saying that might be the lag issue?

Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier (sorry long day..) that the steering wheel gets shaky when I'm gliding downhill, and gets a bit shakier if I have to lightly tap the brake going downhill...

Yes it might be the TPS. It has to have the correct calibration. .5 at closed throttle and 4.5 at WOT If not it can cause issues.

Yeah I spoke to a friend who said he's had the same issue lately... I know already that brakes are expensive, so if I'm not in danger of careening into traffic I'm not going to worry about it right now!

Thanks for the help!
