Icon3 88 civic DX top out

when im driving on the interstate my car in 5th gear gets to 84 and just starts bouncing the speedo and cutting out, thats apparently its top speed, is there a govoner on the throttle body?

what can i do? coming back from IA summer meet i couldnt hardly even keep up with my convoy

its supposed to have had a stock D15 swapped in out of an 88 or 89 crx, its throttle body dual point injected, please help cant stand only doing 84mph

have you checked your fuel filter. Could be a fuel delivery issue. By cutting out do you mean hesitation bogging or more of a misfire.??

dude my 89' does well over 84 w/ stock b2 DPFI! if its a governor it should hit that speed, drop for a second or two then rev back up just like any, is that what you meant/you gotta CEL? could be an ecu problem if it was an HF crx it might have a governor now that i think about it but im not 100% on that. i know there are differences between the hf's fuel economy and all others.

ya its dropping and revving then dropping and revving continuously when it gets to 83mph, and if i let out of the gas it goes right back to normal till i push it back up to that speed, and its not a fueling or power issue, cause the motor is still pulling strong and you can feel the it would keep accelerating if it could. it acts like somethings holding it back, and i have no idea what the crx was it came out of :/

Sounds more like an RPM related issue than speed related. Do you have a tach?

Using this calculator, it looks to be at ~3700 rpm (depending on tire size).

Same issue in 1st and 2nd?

The only speed governor I have encountered was with the JDM B16A ECU had a speed governor at 112mph but the USDM ones did not have one.

This obviously isnt a speed related issue. If it was, it would always happen at the same speed.

It IS however, happening at the same rpm in at least 3 different gears. Sounds either ignition or fuel related to me. Most likely ignition if it is cutting sharply in-and-out.

thats the thing it is consistently at the same speed, its like its where the gear ends but i wouldnt have thought the 5th gear would end at 83/84 mph, and i put new ngk plugs and wires on, its only got stock 13" wheels and tires to

NO. It is consistently at the same RPM. If it was always at the same speed, 4th gear would also stop at 84mph.

no way he can run vtec with dpfi, sound like your going into limp mode, or its just a pos your never going to be impressed with this setup, dont buy a new dizzy unless its for mpfi or your just waisting money

as far as impressed goes iv got a boosted 240sx and a vr6 gti golf so its honestly probably gonna take a type R Kswap before the civic impresses me, and im actually kinda thinking about doing that, i just really thought the d15 would have done better then a top out of 83/84mph
