Help! Accord dying on me while idle AND while driving
Hey there,
I have a 98' accord that is testing my patience! About two months ago (or three trips to the mechanic ago), the car started to die randomly when idling, you could hear the engine struggle for a couple of seconds and then it died. I realised that I could wait about a minute and then it would start again, no problem. I went to our local mechanic - he declared nothing was wrong.
Fast forward two weeks, issue persists, go back to mechanic and he changes the ignition switch.
Problem persists again, this time it starts to happen while driving. Decide to take it to the Honda shop. They decide to change the distributor cap.
Now it is happening worse than ever. Yesterday the car was barely drivable. Usually, after it stalls I can wait and it starts up again, it started up again yesterday but the 'check engine' light wouldn't go off and it felt like the car could die at any moment, felt like it was turning over very weakly...
Any ideas for a car that started to die when idling and has got steadily worse to where it feels unsafe to drive, all the while having been in the shop 3 times in the last 2 months with mechanics checking it over and declaring it fine and ready to go? Seems weird that it can to that. What are they missing?!?!
Thanks a lot in advance for any ideas!
Andy

First thing I would do is get the code from the PCM - get the actual code and let us know what it is.
Next, might come into play - what engine is in this car?

sounds like a charging issue. take it to autozone or orielys for code scan to find out what the issue might be, or you can find the blue two prong plug usually under the passenger side dash and jump it with a wire or paper clip, turn on the ignition to run, don't start it. follow the flashes of the check engine light, (long and short lights)
