From my experience, accessory drive belts are too loose or need to be replaced. Is it the drive belts? You could spray the belt with belt dressing or hold a bar of soap on the belt while running to see if its the belt

> Check Belt tension
> If persists, remove each accessory belt to diagnose which is causing squealing
> Powersteering , then aircon, then alternator.

i have the same problem. i figured replacing the alternator and alternator belt would cure the problem. that's gonna be a job i pull in the next year or so. the midwest winters have the alternator and alternator bracket rusted to all f*ck so i'm not gonna mess with those rusted bolts. the alternator itself performs fine, passes all tests, and holds the battery at 14.1 volts when running, but that squeal is embarassing as all hell when it starts. punching the gas right away usually makes it go away.

Yeah it SQUEALS as soon as it starts then goes away.. Maybe like 2 seconds.. The belts are brand spanking new so I'll tighten the AC belt and see what happens.. Thanks fellas!!

Buddy. Quit tooling around with the belts. That's not the problem. your problem is in the ALTERNATOR BEARING. You know, the things that keep the wheel centered and smoothly turning? They/it are/is worn out and when you start the car they prevent the wheel from turning, so the belt slips over it (the crank overpowers the small alternator wheel) until it is going fast enough to unjam it and that is the squealing noise.

Cliffs: Replace the god **** alternator.
