I have a 1997 civic cx and I'm having a problem with the headlights getting dimmed then bring when I accelerate and downshift so I was reading around check all grounds and check the alternator which I did and they were ok. Lastly I check the fuse box under the hood it smells kinda burnt and on the 80amp fuse where the screws are there's like white coloration there like its burnt so I'm guessing that could be the culprit..

if the fuse under the hood is like that would it give a CEL? Also, would that make my car hesitate while accelerating since maybe its not giving enough juice to the dizzy?

Replace said 80A fuse and also check whether 7.5A dash fuse 15 is blown.

While you are under there find all the grounds and unbolt them, sand them down real good, and sand down the surface they mount to. Go buy new bolts for them, or just sand down the old ones. make sure to blow off the rust dust. I know on my ej1 i have 3. one easy one, the power steering one, attaches directly to the front of the engine bay, and there's one on the transmission. Make sure to do the same to the battery clamps and terminals as well. it really does improve your electronics, albeit slightly.

 

Thanks everyone it was the alt... this person at the first autozone didn't properly check it right so i went to two different ones and both said it was bad =.=
