If you had $700, what suspension setup would you choose ??
89 CRX DX, suspension is fully stock, and completely shot. I want to replace all bushings , ball joints, and get a nice set of springs and shocks, perhaps koni yellows and GC coilovers.
Can a worn OEM suspension be restored with all new rubber , shocks, and springs for $700 or less?
Assuming all work is done by myself with the exception of $80 to the local shop to loosen all bolts , apply anti sieze, and retorque to oem specs.

Koni/GC is going to be at least $800.
Progress has the cheapest "good" coilover kit at $660. http://www.progressauto.com/products.../productID/698
You can find good prices on bushings and ball joints at RockAuto.com.
I highly doubt you can do all of what you want for $700. Not with good parts. But good luck!

Save up a little more until you have about a grand, I also agree with the Koni yellows/GC. Then you can get good coilovers and still have enough for your bushings.

I should have noted , I dont need to have coilovers. I would be perfectly happy lowering my car once, correctly, then not touching the height ever again.
does buying shocks/springs save me a considerable amount over shocks/coilovers ?

Yes. BUT, you are then stuck at that height. There is nothing you can do to change it, unless you get new springs.
Now, the other option I would suggest, which will save some money, is to just get the Koni shocks now for ~$450-500. They have a height adjustable lower spring perch which can be raised or lowered in 1 inch increments (3 choices in front and 5 in back, i think?). Then you can just use your stock springs for now and get GC sleeves later. Even with stock springs, Koni shocks are a HUGE improvement compared to anything else.

hmm that does sound tempting, the Koni's with oem springs for now. The Money I save could be put towards AC. I just hate trying to justify coilovers when I know I wont be raising and lowering it ever.
i don't understand why this is a thread?
go to jhpusa or corsport or even something like autozone, add all the parts you want to a cart and see if it's >$700

Typerfit has nailed it on the head. Sounds like a perfect setup I can get in one shot for my budget. Guess doing the bushings will have to wait a bit.
If you used the oem springs you could lower the car up to 1" with the Koni Yellows. Would ride just like stock and gets rid of a little bit of wheel gap.
Its a thread because I want opinions from guys who actually use these products. Theres so many different combos of springs shocks and what not that the potential to get a bad combo is there , especially if I am trying to stay on a budget.
I guess the bushings dont NEED to be replaced, well except the RTA bushings, they are pretty bad. I just believe in doing things right. If im going to put nice new shocks and springs on 24 year old rubber bushings I might as well just get cheap ebay suspension.
I promise you 100% you would not be disappointed with the Koni/Tein setup. I have been through 4 different sets of suspension on my Integra and this is by far the best for how I drive my car ( mostly cruising with some spirited driving )
Only reason I was asking is I just did the Hardrace master kit and they are awesome, wasn't sure if OP wanted to get bushings piece by piece or get a complete kit.
Also, i put a full set of ball joints on my car that I found on ebay for like $85 bucks. Came with inner and out tie rods, lower ball joints, upper control arms with ball joints, and a few other things i think. It's not the best stuff, but it will last a few years and then I will go either OEM or MOOG. 6 months later and it's all still tight. No torn boots or anything!

recently did something similar on a 2000 civic sedan.
all new rubber spring seats, all new rubber strut mount bushings, all new bump stops. all OE honda. (other bushings weren't needed... yet)
tein S.tech springs and KYB shocks.
the height is perfect (subjective, i know) the ride and handling are great for DD with occasional "spirited" driving jaunts.
total shipping included was < $440.
certainly you could find a similar setup for your CRX and add the additional bushings for less than $280 for a total of $700 or less.
