accord manny tranny vs accord auto tranny
the 5 speed owners bought a 5 speed for driving enjoyment, performance issues, and various other reasons. Auto owners purchased their autos for comfort, easy driving, and other various reasons. I wanna know which type of tranny last longer from the 2. And if one last longer than the other, why so? if they are equally long lasting, why so? please relieve my curiosity thank you very much.
the 5-spd is more efficient, yields more hp through the wheels and will last longer than an auto. just b/c it has less moving parts that you have to worry about. the auto tranny is complex and has parts are begging to fail. the only thing you have to change on a manual is the clutch every 100k miles, and for honda autos...if something happens you most likely have to replace the whole unit.
Rebuilt auto trannies suck. Nowhere as good as a factory fresh built. Once your car is more than 7 years old, the only reali$tic options for a auto tranny failure are rebuilts. Which suck. I wouldn't give a rebuilt more than 60k (unless you went thru Honda or a really-really reputable place but would pay an arm and leg for). Remember, the guy rebuilding them is trying to use the LEAST amount of parts he can to make more money.
Rebuilt tranny + install = ~$$$$$. No such thing as 'used' auto tranny either unlike an used manual tranny. I would buy a cheap used manual tranny and I know it would last.

Why does everybody say Honda Auto trannies are weak/suck, yet whenever their is a post about transmissions, most of the time it's a complaint about something wrong with a manual transmission? The clutch isn't grabbing, there is a burning smell, my clutch pedal goes to the floor, my clutch is squeaking, my car pops out of gear, my car grinds when I shift, my short shifter sucks, haha.

no, I know that...but people beat the crap out of the Auto's too and I hear some problems with them, but not as many as the manual.

RIP my pos automatic tranny that made my car so frigin and slow and made me look like a *** and feel like a girly man and sound like *** in between gear shifts.
All hail the manual tranny, autos are for when I'm old and gray.

You can shift a car thru its gears without clutching if you do it right.

Shifting without the clutch is by matching the revs of the motor with the speed of the tranny. I had a 4runer with a 5 speed and i could upshift and downshift without ever using the clutch. I did it mostly by how it felt and just shifted when it felt right. I know that is not a very good explination but that is all i can do.

no power shifting is when you shift never let up on the throttle and shift as fast as possible. Doing this is supposed to help keep revs up.

It is not hard to learn you just have to know where your tranny like it. The benefits of this include being able to drive if your clutch goes out while driving as well as making shifts smoother. Cause knowing where it will go without the clutch will make shifts smoother with the clutch. Example: i was driving my camaro and all of the sudden my clutch stopped working, but i was still able to drive home because i knew how to shift without my clutch
honda's auto tranny is weak. at least on my car, that's why they gave everyone the 7 year 100k drive train warranty...
mine was the 2k1 v6 accord with the slushbox... such a weak transmission....

in the process of learning, is there a chance that the tranny can get messed up?? is the spot where the tranny likes to be shifted same on all cars? should i try learning on my 02 coupe 5 speed that has 8000 miles on it?
The auto tranny eats alot of power. My 94 was auto and it spun 112hp to the wheels in 3rd with a 65hp loss through the tranny. Dynoed my CRX 5spd - 94hp to the wheels with a loss of 16hp.
