Default Bypass heater core... Issues?

So of course my floorboard is soaked with coolant.

D15b7 300'000 mi, stock.

First I got a pinhole in a heater hose ( thermostat to heater ) . Replaced that bled air out. Was ok.
Then started hearing escaping fluid from under dash.
Started overheating.
Tried turning heat all the way off, but no go. I guess there is enough pressure from the other side to come leaking out of the core.

So, I bypassed the core with 5/8 hose. Any issue with this? Some seem to think this will upset the system somehow, like the now totally unrestricted flow ( prviously restricted by the core when heat on, and by the valve when heat off ) will cause hot coolant to bypass the radiator.

I mean there is already a bypass hose to prevent loss of circulation when the heater valve is closed. Putting a free bypass between the connections for the core is essentially the same right?

Nothing will happen except your heater not working. I suppose if there was a kink in your bypass hose that something could go wrong but other than that you should be fine.

agreed. just loop the hose you will be fine, but be sure to have adequate hose length to avoid a kink, when it gets to temp it gets pretty mailable so make sure you have enough slack to not kink!

I probably wouldnt recommend it. Previous owner did that to my B20 integra and it still just made the car over heat

Dont bump an old thread try starting a new one if its really needed.

You prolly had other issues that caused your over heat issue.

If the heater core valve is closed so no water circulation is occurring, how would the heater core assist in cooling the engine ?
