JDM F22B VTEC into a 94 Accord EX- what gets reused from the original F22B1?
Hello Folks, new member here...
I plan on replacing the played out 300K mile engine in my 94 Accord EX wagon in a few weeks, and have a few questions that I can find decent answers to, despite Google and searching this site and CD5Tuner.... if you can set me straight, I'd sure appreciate it!
So, the plan is to replace the exact same engine, just the JDM variant of that engine.... JDM F22B SOHC VTEC for the existing F22B1.
I believe both will be OBD1, correct?
Will there be a need to replace the oil pump on the JDM engine with a USDM version, to get some kind of crank angle sensor feature that the JDM version lacks?
Can I keep the JDM distributor on the new engine, or will I need to swap over my old USDM dizzy? Both are internal coil, but is there some other sensor or wiring difference that will require using the USDM version?
Is there any need to swap over the old intake manifold or throttle body, for vacuum routing/sensor differences/throttle body orientation reasons?
Is there some type of knock sensor on the rear of the USDM block, that the JDM version lacks? If so, is the mounting feature (threaded hole, etc) going to be on the JDM block, or will I need to McGuyver something?
As you can see, I am looking to do as little swapping over from my existing engine, while still keeping the donor engine plug and play as far as the wiring harness, ECU and emissions controls are concerned.
Any help or definitive answers you gents could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
