Default J series engine in 6th gen

So I'm starting to get a handle on my h23a vtec swap and thinking of another swap.

I'm thinking a J30a4 or 5 into a 6th gen. With that being said my questions are.

How does the J series engine compare to the f and h series as reliable and strength?

Will this work since the 6th gen has the J30a1?

Any modifications need to be done?

I am no guru , but know a lil something about ouir 6th gens. here is my 2 cents:

Just as good, if not better.

It could. I say could due to the motor mounts, which most likely will need to be fabricated from scratch.

You could go an easier route and just use a J32A2 or J35A3/A4. Those are cable T/B engines. The J30A4/A5 are DBW engines. People are making DBW engines work in cars that were Cable T/B, so it is do-able.

Wiring harness will need some pinning based on what you use:
ECU with piggyback, or full Standalone.

some are in my answer above, but I am no guru and don't know every step involved to do this swap.

if its a 4 lug hub 4 banger, you will need to upgrade to 5 lug hubs for better braking.

maybe some suspension changes since it is set up for a 4 cylinder.

...Some people have considered a v6 swap into a 4 cylinder 6th gen, but its never been done. The drivetrain swap alone can get hella expensive. So adding in suspension components and sub-frames, and 5 lug hub swaps...it adds up quick.

Yea I guess I didn't think of suspension work.

Thanks for your input I will just stay with my 4 cylinder

You don't HAVE to upgrade from 4-lug to 5-lug to get better braking. A simple rotor and caliper upgrade works. The rear brakes really don't do anything on the street. People always look at these things from a track car perspective. It's (probably) not going to touch a track. You can EASILY slow the car down on factory brakes from 1/4 mile speeds at the 1/4 track and on the street(if you do that thing).

Best bet is to start with a factory V6 car. There's no reason to upgrade to a J30A4/5 when all you're getting out of it is... nothing! Go J35 or don't do it. They're the same price, they're EVERYWHERE(tons of Odysseys were made), and there's NO downside. Many J35's came with the same heads as the J32A2 Type-S's, and all that's needed is to drop the cams in from the J32A2. The newer TL Type-S's and the Odyssey TOURING(only) came with a low heigh intake manifold that flows VERY well and has proven to make power everywhere. You want heads with a proper 3-outlet exhaust(not the single outlet) to add properly designed headers.

I have always thought that if I bought another Honda, a Gen 6 coupe with a J35 would be the way to go. If I could run a manual trans.

I thought of the j35 from the MDX right after doing my H23a vtec, but just wasn't sure what to do yet.

I will definitely be looking it to this soon. thanks for all the inputs
