I pulled some cel codes on my friends 98 Accord tonight and then reset the ECU. I wasn't thinking about the radio power being disconnected. I've searched and all I can find is stuff for civics and tegs (who would have guessed). Basically what most say is there is a sticker sometimes in the glove box or under the ashtray. There are none on his car, he doesn't have the owners manual and he is not the original owner of the car. Does anyone know any tricks or ways to get the code? I know he can call the dealership with the serial and VIN...is that our only option? TIA
i had this exact identical problem. i had a 6 disc cd changer and i lost the honda card with the code. This is what you do.
Your dealer has access to these codes. it is very very important that you see your salesman that sold u the car. otherwise, its 90 dollars gone down the drain for knowing your code. Tell the salesman about it and he should be able to find out for you. i went to the service department and they gave me the bullshit of telling me that they had to call japan to find out and almost charged me the 90 dollars. Anyhoo, go to your salesman, and if he remembers you, even better. hope that helps.

NO....I went to the dealer YESTERDAY. for 6gen cd player
talking about stupid dealer, they just charge me 5 bucks
no vin number, no id check, no questions about what car what so ever...
so the whole security thing is just a big bs.
what 90 bucks??

BTW the sale person cant do a damn thing about it since the only way to
check the code is from the service department.
so save your trip to the sales person.

how could that be possible? don't they at least need the serial number of the radio? since they all have different codes
I think what Pimpin Accord meant was that if your salesman remembers you he will go to the service dept. for you and "hook" you up. This is so you remember to buy your next car off of him again and refer people to him.
Thanks guys. I guess my friend is off to the dealership...I'll give him some vaseline before he goes...

Listen, I'll make it simple. You pull the stereo. Get the code numbers off of the unit and call Honda parts department. Tell them you work at a local shop and you just replaced the battery on this car and you need the stereo code or the customer will shoot you. Any Honda parts guy can get the code for you within minutes with the code numbers on the unit. The VIN # will do you no good, trust me.

At my dealer we do the following:
See if the code is on the hondanet network or on our database. Generally if the car was sold by us we would have it.
IF not that:
You pay us $89 to remove the radio, pull the serial # off of it, and use the serial # to get the code.
OR
You pull the radio yourself, YOU get the serial #, and call/visit the dealer to get the code.
OR
If you have an 01+ model, press and hold the radio preset buttons 1+6 for about 5 seconds and the code will flash on the LCD screen.
Hope this helps.

That will get you the serial number, not the radio code.

and our dealer charges $89/hour.
