93 Del Sol s resurrection
Well this all started as hunting for a mpg commuter. After looking for a decent priced crx or del sol in the gulf coast area for a while I came across this 93 del sol on craigslist about 3 hours away. I get there and the car is running! Should have been my first red flag. It ran like it could use a tune-up but nothing major. I bought it and made the journey home, getting off the interstate the car ran like *@#! Here we go, should be a fun ride since the guy won answer the phone now.

Gratz man! This is nearly the same car I am working on! 5spd '93 S here. Looks like you have a great platform to work from! It has been a blast to drive and work on - the mileage is amazing. Got mine with 99,500 on it but a little rougher looking.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
So now the plot thickens! Towed the sol to work and performed a compression test: 60,80,0, and 90 psi! The plug on cylinder three oil soaked! Guess its time for a tear down!
So where is your head at man? Will you give in to the chants of Swap Swap Swap! or build a mini-me or something else?
When it ran did it sound ok? It's hard to lunch the mains on a stock D15 unless someone was really abusive. You might be able to do rod bearings and rings with a top end job and hit the road.
a D16Z6 is nearly a drop in and you can get a used motor for under $1K delivered with 67k -ish miles on it.
I chose to fix my D15B7 because there was no major damage and I thought I would see what I could do with it (the 1.6 is same bore, uses diff crank and rods, head and distributor).

Well the answer is it will still be powered by the original d15b7 for a while since it is soon to be my only ride. And after taking it to the shop and giving it a good once over, I now wish I had maybe waited for the next one. After putting in the air: It needs a radiator, engine rebuild, new rack, and 4 tires to begin with. Here are some pics of the current state its in.

ANYBODY SEE A PROBLEM HERE???

And finally a couple pics of a rainy day project almost complete

reminds me of my old Del Sol S when I first bought it....except mine didn't have a messed up motor and a slushbox transmission. Might as well throw some engine degresser on the engine bay and give it a good wash. Countless people put back the motor and the engine bay looks like ***.

. I always bring the tools to do a compression test when I buy a car. If the seller wont let me do it I will walk away.
