Why do they call it an ef civic?
EF is a general name given to the 88-91 civics. This name changes though by model extension. For example; my 89 Civic SI - USDM spec is considered an ED7. In Japan, the 89-91 Civic SiR hatchback is considered an EF9. Really, it's just another way of saying 88-91 Civic...some will go as far as refering a 4-door 88-91 civic as an EF 4-door.
Therefore:
88-91 Civics = EF
92-95 Civics = EG
96-2000 Civics = EK
94 and up Integras = DC
90-93 Integras = DA
If I'm wrong about anything here someone please correct me.

I would guess that the hatches and coupe/sedans have different codes.
