Icon2 Cam position Sensor oil Leak

This is something I noticed a while ago, looked into it but then left it alone.

I noticed that my upstream o2 sensor connector always had oil on it. I searched for the location but couldn't find where it was coming from and whether or not it was causing any problems.

Looking it up I found that the cam position sensor sometimes leaks and the oil wicks down to the sensors.

Has anyone come across this? Is it a problem I should look into fixing indicating a bigger problem or is it harmless? I dont lose a lot of oil but I can't clean off the connection without oil quickly coming back.

Thanks

Is this on a V6?

If it is an I4. The CYP sensor is located inside the distributor and does not come in contact with an oil passage. If the oil is coming from the distributor it should be easily recognizable. There is a weep hole on the bottom. or you could remove the cap and see if there is oil inside the distributor. If there is oil inside, there is a way to replace the oil seal inside the distributor.

Can you post up pictures of your engine bay? there aren't very many places where the oil could be coming from to get to the O2 wire connector. If it comes back that quickly maybe you could clean the area around and above the connector. Then run the engine and watch for the source.

Ill get under there and try to get a good pic. Its the f22. It appears that oil is traveling down the wires to the connector under the intake manifold. For a while the vtec solenoid had oil build up but I replaced it. That didn't change this though. What would be connected to a source of oil that is above the mid section?

Its kinda just sitting there. It comes back if I clean it but I don't lose a lot of oil. Unless the valve cover gaskets are bad and its seeping down from there?

The sensor underneath the intake manifold is the oil pressure sending unit, they tend to leak internally.

I'm talking about something that is leaking oil and sending it down the harness. Lowest point in that spot is the o2 sensor. By internal leak you mean wouldn't show up outside the engine right?

there are two spots it could leak at if it's leaking from the oil pressure switch...past the outside threads..and through the internal of the switch

If the switch is leaking is this cause for concern? Or even just a small thing that I could easily fix?

I just looked it up. Theres no oil leaking anywhere else. It looks like its traveling down the harness, doesn't seem like the oil pressure switch. But i will check it.

This doesnt seem like anything too serious, I'm gonna double check the valve cover gasket too, maybe its coming from there.

if the switch is leaking past the outside threads you can pick up some teflon tape and put some teflon tape on the 5th to 7th threads and that should seal it up fine. The reason for this is that you need some of the threads bare and touching the block for the switch to function as it needs to act as a ground. If it's leaking through the switch itself then just replace it. Or you can just replace it no matter what cause it's not an expensive part. It's your call.
