Default How reliable are the older Accords?

I'm on the verge of purchasing an 89 Accord with 189k miles on it. I was just wondering how reliable those older accords were? He says it runs and drives perfect. How many miles do any of you guys have on your older accords?

They are truly bulletproof. In fact, regular maintainance is all they need.

is it an LXi?

86-89 Accord LXis are the best honda ever made. I am lucky enough to own an 89 LX-i coupe. 182k miles. keep up with maintence and it will run forever. The problem most found them are leaky injectors. Sweet Car, dont be afraid of milage.

I'm not sure what model it is. It really didn't matter to me, but, that is a good question.

Well in my humble opinion, I think the 3rd gen Accords (86-89) were some of the best Accords built to date. May not be the fastest, but the reliability/durability can't be beat. Being very sexy is an added bonus

I'm about to turn 304,000 on my 89 LX-i. Original engine, tranny, clutch, and a shitload of other parts that have never been replaced or even touched for that matter. Still runs and drives 100% perfect

If it's an SE-i, buy it! They're sweeet, and you don't see all too many of them around

I agree
These are one of the best Accords ever made. They have proven the test of time with the crazy high mileage they have. I beat the crap outta mine and they just won't die.

Perfect! What's the lug pattern on the 89 Accords? Are they 4x100? Because my winter tires from my Integra last winter are still new, so I'm hoping I can just swap those rims onto the Accord.

Well along with my 95 accord, I also own a 90' Accord LX, and it has 260k miles on it, and runs strong, no problems, nothing broke, perfect condition. How long they last, like most cars, all depends on how good of care you take (and others took in used cars) of the car.

if you buy a 3rd or 4th gen, make sure you replace the main relay. thats the only problem i can think of, otherwise they are bulletproof.

the only thing that bothers me is that the motor mounts can go bad easily and the vibrates a lot especially if you have an auto.
