Just got a CRX sway bar in my hatch
So today I was all ready for the big project involving drilling holes in my frame and the above floor to install a CRX Si rear sway bar into my Dx hatch. I get all the parts, jack the car up, and am quite excited to find that my Dx already has the holes for the mounting plates! What's more, they are threaded and ready to go. All I had to do was run a tap through the 20 year old threads to clean them out and have at it.
Why is my car this way? Not that I'm complaining but I'm very curious.

I think not all chassis were strictly manufactured according to model. Like if they ordered more DX the si that month, they're just going to reconfigure the one already half made to a DX.
Just adding, I have a 91 STD and it has threaded holes for the sway bar. I think your response [Tyson] is probably the most logical explanation so far as to why some have it and some don't.
well thats interesting still. because we know that hatches were manufactured in Canada, not in japan.
so perhaps the canada plant just made the same chassis for all models? so therefore hatches all(?) had the threaded holes?
anyone have a hatch WITHOUT the threaded holes?

Its like the GSR strut bar mounting holes. Some have them drilled out and some just have a dent punched in the metal where they go. No rhyme or reason by trim or model.
I agree with Tyson. they're made to be like Lego's so they grab a chassis and add to it. If they have a Si chassis but needed more CX or whatever they just probably delete options but use the same chassis.

my 88 std hatch, which was made in japan (brown vin badge, sticker under the hood said so) did have the holes, but no weld nuts for the bolts to thread into
i thought all the hatches were made in canada? i suppose since yours was a 88 at the start of the model cycle it was made in japan?
anyone have more definitive answer on where the hatches were produced?
im just interested for gits and shiggles really. dont know much about hatch specific stuff as i do crx.

Mine is a '91 Dx from Canada. I do know that some came from Mexico though as I've seen the "Honda of Mexico" badge on the hood latch brace thing in junk yards.
It seems like most people here have holes with threads on their hatches. Is it only the CRX that does not have holes?
