Default K? J? or V8?

K? J? or V8?

That is the question. I am still saving and planning my RWD CRX drag build. But I cannot decide on the engine setup. Literally every other aspect of the build is planned until I get to the engine bay lol... Transmission is a Lentech Street Terminator AOD Manual Valvebody Transmission good for 800 ft lbs...Rear end is a Ford 9 inch with 31 spline axles and a wavetrac LSD. All the above is already purchased and waiting...

So the question is this... What is the best drag platform to use for the best bang for my buck... So here are the choices...

A)
I have a 1988 Ford 302 I can use, puts down about 250 RWHP 320 ft lbs on a dynojet.
Cost $0 Cost to build a 800 hp capable longblock... $7000

B)
K24A4/8 because I can get a longblock for under $800....

C)
J32/35 around $3000 is what I have found for a long block...

Car will see almost 0 street and will be getting a turbo setup no matter what. Cost for that is ignored.

So here is the criteria.
1.What engine would be the most reliable hp stock?

2.What engine would be the cheapest to reliably hold 800 whp ish for many runs...?

-I know FAST, CHEAP, RELIABLE.... There is still a choice of cheapest within the choice of reliable and fast when I am choosing inbetween engines... I know they will all cost thousands to build...

3. What engine doesnt have aftermarket support?
- I am thinking J possibly?

Flame me all you want, tell me it wont get done, whatever... I will ignore you. For those who are actually interested I am looking for serious input. Thanks.

J series! I've heard they can show excellent numbers under boost. Then at least you can keep it Honda native, and there are definitely not a lot of mid chassis mounted J series. My 2c.

Heard that too, and it would be unusual... Pricey though....

Rotary isn't even an option when it's stock.

Why not a F22? F22's come with factory forged internals and can handle 800RWHP on a stock block... http://www.s2000.com/forums/forced-i...rag-build.html

For one, that is a pretty rare occasion. For 2, I have seen those engines have problems running only 100 hp over stock! So no thank you. I know I can build a K and get it sleeved to be a bullet breaker, but the J is my question. For a drag racer I want Massive torque. HP sells cars but TQ wins races my friend and for that the J or the V8 are the better options.

Just look at the worlds fastest CRX. It has a 2JZ or whatever. They tried to use an F series but they were waaaay slower. So they put the 2JZ back into it.... V8 or V6 in the Js case are better then both!

...doesnt matter... it wont stay stock since I want it to last.... NO F series at all!

I have a 2jzgte in my 240 - and although it can make 800whp on stock bottom end, I sometimes wish I had an f22 because it's lighter and can now mate to a v160.

Oh and the f22 can make 800whp in stock form also!

Ive never seen them with issues 100 hp over stock... Unless it was already beat to hell and back. They have a 2jz s2000 and it is slower then the f20 s2000.... But if you are really against the F series that make power on boost like nothing and you seem like one of those "there is no replacement for displacement" kind of guys, just go LS1. Lot more aftermarket support then the J series.

No I am not a no replacement for displacement, but it is true haha. You cant say look how BADASS this engine is when its on boost and compare it to a NA engine lol... Again not going LS1 when I have a SBF sitting in my garage lol...

Yes a F series or K can make tons of power on boost... So can basically any other engine lol... F series are also not a dime a dozen like say a K24A4/8 or even a J series, or a Small block Ford or Chevy...

And I will agree that a smaller engine is the best when I see a 4 or 6 cylinder in the low 6s, when V8 promods are in the 5s lol...

On that the torque you get from a larger cylinderengine is ALWAYS greater throughout the powerband then a smaller engine...

Replacement for displacement is a turbo/SC. I never said 4 bangers are the fastest, but to be able to run 6's(which they do already. Which is also amazing engineering for a 4 banger) But most people let alone don't even have 7-8 second cars. F20's can be found on ebay for 4 grand or less or HMO for 3900. Decently common. What is it with people and torque? Granted you are going for a RWD set-up, but torque in a FF car(especially one as light as the Crx) just creates more and more wheelspin. But I don't want to argue, that's not what this thread is about, use your 302, save money from buying a K/J/F/other V8 and boom. Then you just need to hope it doesn't do wheelies haha.

J32a2 or j35a3 longblocks are less than $1000.

stock internals on boost you can see around 700hp
