Tire noise on 2006 Honda Civic
I have a 2010 Civic that I bought new and it is a quiet and smooth car so when I recently bought a used 2006 for a work car for my wife I noticed a fairly load whining or howling noise coming from the rear when driving on smooth roads. When I test drove the car it was on a tar and chip road so it wasn't noticeable . I thought it was wheel bearings but after I installed new bearings it was still there . Even though the tires are new and look fine I felt it had to be bad tires on the rear so I swapped them out onto my 2010 and sure enough the 2010 had the same noise with those tires. They are Uniroyal Tiger Paws and my question is , have there been any complaints or recalls with these tires. Since the previous owner bought the tires is there still a chance that Uniroyal will back up the tires ? They are obviously defective .
Some tires make more noise then others, fact of life. Contact uniroyal about the problem or just buy better tires. Only other thing I can think of is the alignment is all ducked up and caused a weird wear pattern thus making noise.
That's what it was " THE DUCK STRUCK" The tire shop showed me how to feel the tread for uneven wear. Whats funny is that you couldn't see it because it was so slight but you definitely could feel it. Bought two new same brand tires and the problem is gone. I'm taking it for front end check.
I know the last time I went to Honda they did an alignment and ruined my rear tires which cause a similar noise that you were experiencing... I even asked them not to do it because I had specific settings.
Engineering fault on 2006 and some 2007 civics. The rear upper control arms are too short causing the tires to cup and wear uneven. I didn't realize it was a recall but it was definitely a TSB. I bought my used 2006 the first of this year and had the howling noise from the rear. I did the research and found out what the problem was and the dealership fixed it no charge. If they replace all 4 tires, replace the control arms, and align it.....it's about 1000.00 unless Honda or the dealer helps you out.

Same here, went to my local honda dealer, they replaced my control arms with the new ones free of charge. btw the new control arms have the letter "C" stamped on them, so if you're not sure which control arms you have, check for the stamp.
Is Honda still replacing these control arms on cars as old as 06 and 07's at no charge ?
To clarify....
That picture is NOT the stamp. that is ink. The stamp is just that, a stamped recess in the metal in the shape of a C. The stamp is small, about the diameter of a pencil. The older control arms had the stamps AND the inked Cs, but the newer arms are missing the big white inked C and it also could be worn off of older arms. Just because it doesn't have the big white C doesn't mean they are the old arms. I will post a pic if I can find one.

I'm sure you're right, after reading different threads on different forums that is what I was lead to believe. You say that the new arms don't have the inked c on them but that photo is of the new arms that were replaced. So Im alittle confused on that part since my new arms do have the ink c mark.
I guess I worded that badly. The original arms had no marks. The replacement arms used to have inked Cs and stamped Cs. The newer replacement arms seem to not have the inked Cs and just the stamped Cs as the last two sets I installed did not have the inked Cs.
Which 'Tiger Paws' are installed? If it's a set of the Snow and Ice ones I wouldn't be surprised you're having noise.

Personally I only grab tires with good user reviews on the forums and TireRack. I've got an inkling those Uniroyals are from some random local shop. TR doesn't even stock them...

I just installed a set yesterday that didn't have the inked Cs I'm guessing that's why there's a new part number (A01 vs A00)
