Icon2 SLIM FAN QUESTION

So my radiator cracked on my car so I'm debating on replacing the fan to a slim fan since I have to replace my radiator. Any draw backs or anything I should consider if I do replace it to a slim fan? Should i be ok with just the fan or should i buy one with a shroud? The fans will be used on a half size dual core radiator for my DD which is exposed to 100+ temperatures in the summer time. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nothing to gain from it. They're for people who need more clearance, or want more bling factor. Yes, if you did, the shroud would be absolutely necessary.

I'm running a blox slim fan on my half core mishimoto with no shroud (needed for clearance), it runs cooler than it did when stock ( higher cfm's) and super quiet, I wasn't expecting that performance but definitely glad i made the switch. I'm sure the shroud would help out even more, but its recently been 100deg consistently the past few days and the cars handled like a champ ( b18b with a small, overworked turbo putting out a massive amount of heat).

Shroud makes the difference. It just doesn't seem smart to me to upgrade the rad and run a slim fan without trying to maximize the cooling potential of the new hardware to the fullest.

Someone ran temp tests in the FI forum. Don't know if the shroud specifically was tested.
