VSM Paint Match?
Before you guys start flaming, I DID my research and came up pretty disappointed. I'm getting some new wheels and I want the lip and sideskirts to match the body color instead of them being black. I was thinking of getting them professionally done, but the places around here quoted me in the range on high $900's.
Anyhow, I already painted them (2x) and both times the paint was off. First I used some paint from Pepboys that was suppose to match factory paint, and it was too bright. Next, I used Krylon 1401 and it was also too bright. This was all post research. Many people mentioned Krylon 1401 - Bright Silver Metallic - so I went ahead with it, but to no avail.
So, is there any type of spray paint that will match Vogue Silver Metalic (VSM)? It's a 00' EK by the way. Or, am I out of luck here?

lip and sideskirts should be about $400-$500 to paint at a reputable shop. I don't think I would be satisfied with anything less.
I had a new VSM myself in 1997 and painted mirrors/sideskirts/moldings...etc. with a high quality airbrush and high quality model compressor. It was pretty much a dead match. I bought the paint from an automotive paint supplier and I did use automotive clear also.
Here is the car in 2001 and the paint was holding up very well, even on the door handles.

Thanks for the responses. Most paint stores around here don't do automotive paint, and so I'd have to go to a shop. I've gotten quotes and they're a bit more than I feel comfortable paying for. I'd rather do it myself, but it seems like there really isn't a matching spray can that I can just pick up.
When people match they dont seem to realise the typical car/paint they are dealing with is 10-25 years old. Your VSM on your car is not going to look like fresh VSM, it's just not going to happen. Silvers, and reds are notorious for not retaining the original shade over time.
You CAN match the paint, but I almost guarantee it's not going to be from trying to match VSM.

Didn't search? Or maybe you missed this, but ditto the above.

lol yea Grumble.. Krylon aha. And I did come across paint scratch, but I didn't want to buy anything online. I'll probably end up just getting it done professionally If I ever gather all the cash needed. Thanks for the help guys.
